January Recap

In January 2024, as MBA students returned from winter break and study trips, the start of the new year marked the beginning of the end of the MBA program. Despite the end approaching, the month was filled with exciting events and opportunities, adding to the many memorable experiences at Ivey. We also welcomed three new exchange students from overseas!
January kicked off with the MBA Games at Brock University's Goodman School of Business. The event, a cornerstone in Canadian business education, united 250 bright MBA candidates from 16 esteemed schools for Academic, Athletic, and Spirit competitions. The Ivey team excelled, notably in a collaborative fundraising challenge with University Canada West. The basketball team's journey to the semifinals showcased skill and tenacity, with a nail-biting loss in the semis. The MBA Games offered unparalleled networking and bonding opportunities, enriching the students’ experience, and connecting them with future leaders. It's not just a competition but a celebration of Canada's MBA community spirit, intelligence, and determination.
On one of the chilly, January, Sunday evenings, MBA and MSc students went to Boler Mountain for a private tubing event. It’s remarkable how quickly three hours outside in the cold will go by when you are fixated on squeezing in as many tube runs as possible. Of course, the bonfire by the tubing hill was a welcome resting station for anyone who needed to warm up.
At the end of the month, the MBAA EDI team organized a fun “Learn to Skate” event at Victoria Park featuring skating, laughter, and complimentary tutorials from our resident skaters! In good Canadian fashion, the group enjoyed some Tim Hortons timbits and hot chocolate next to the rink whenever a skating break was needed.
Finally, seven MBA student entrepreneurs have joined the Winter cohort of the Western Accelerator program, representing five companies: Nosh Protein, Liquid Asset, Courier&Share, TransferPace, and Expressify. Their passion and dedication to creating a positive impact, combined with their hard work will undoubtedly drive the success of their businesses.
As the final 2 months of the MBA commence, there will be no shortage of events to round out what has been a phenomenal year!
